All-time winningest pitcher in Baltimore Oriole's history joins Volunteers of America in welcoming golfers to The Legends Golf Tournament

Jim Palmer, three-time Cy Young Award winner and four-time Gold Gloves honoree, is the featured National Baseball Hall of Fame celebrity at the 2014 edition of Volunteers of America's Legends Golf Tournament Jim Palmer, a 1990 inductee into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, is the special celebrity guest at Volunteers of America’s Legends Golf Tournament. Held every August at RE/MAX’s private Sanctuary Golf Course in Sedalia, the tournament traditionally features a baseball Hall of Fame celebrity who poses for photos with players, signs autographs and baseballs, and shares the insider stories that make-up baseball legends. With support from event partner Colorado Rockies Charities, this is a golf tournament with a distinctly baseball theme.

“Jim Palmer is a great choice,” says Jim White, Volunteers of America’s Director of Community Affairs. “He is still active in baseball as a color commentator on telecasts of major league games. I can’t wait to hear the stories he has to tell.”

A right-handed pitcher who played all of his 19 years in the major leagues with the Orioles during the 1960’s, ‘70s and ‘80s, Palmer is the only pitcher in the history of the World Series to win in each of three decades. He holds the title for the most wins in the 1970s by any major league pitcher. He also won at least 20 games in each of eight seasons and his 268 career victories are currently an Orioles record.

The tournament, scheduled for Thursday, August 7, is preceded by a Players Party, sponsored by CoBiz Insurance, at the Denver ChopHouse and Brewery on Wednesday night, August 6, when guests pose for photos with Palmer and bid in a live auction of baseball memorabilia.

Tournament entry fees start at $5,000 for a foursome and $7,500 for a foursome/hole sponsorship. Add $5,000 to either amount and Jim Palmer will play in the donor’s foursome. A limited number of tickets, priced at $100 per person, are available for non-golfers who would like to attend the Players Party.

Funds raised support Volunteers of America’s services to families moving out of homelessness and domestic violence by offering support, education and tools to empower them to become self-sufficient and help their children grow up in more stable and nurturing environments.

Tournament co-chairs are Lee Earnhart of Chambers Wine & Liquor, John Milek of CoBiz Insurance, and Greg Stiff of The J M Smucker Company.
